Eugene Public Library

The Eugene Public Library Project is a 167,000-square-foot, five story reinforced concrete building. Construction began in December 2000 with the placement of 40 foot long pilings to protect a near vertical bank cut surrounding the site. Concrete placement for the structural framework began in early January 2001 and was completed in October 2001.

The buildings exterior skin is a combination of masonry veneer and aluminum curtain wall. The building includes a 39,000- square-foot underground parking garage, four elevators, glass atrium, terrazzo entry and a 30 foot diameter circular staircase.

When the building was originally bid, it was $2 million over budget. Through a collaborative partnership between the Owner, Architect and John Hyland Construction we trimmed that cost down to allow the project to get built. During the construction, additional funding was procured to allow the original scope of work to be put back into the project.
